🫘KIDNEY FUNCTION
Renal Health & Filtration Markers
WHAT IT MEASURES
Creatinine — waste product from muscle metabolism
BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) — protein metabolism byproduct
eGFR (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) — kidney efficiency
BUN/Creatinine Ratio — dehydration/kidney stress indicator
Uric Acid — purine metabolism waste
REFERENCE RANGES
Marker | Normal Range | Note |
Creatinine | 0.74–1.35 mg/dL (men) | Muscle metabolism |
BUN | 7–20 mg/dL | Protein breakdown |
eGFR | >60 (normal), >90 (optimal) | Filtration rate |
BUN/Creatinine Ratio | 10–20 | Hydration marker |
Uric Acid | 3.4–7.0 mg/dL | Purine waste |
WHY IT MATTERS
High-protein diets, creatine supplementation, and dehydration all stress the kidneys — and heavy anabolic use compounds this burden significantly. Elevated creatinine combined with low eGFR signals declining kidney function. Athletes on cycle should target 3+ liters of water daily. Early-stage kidney stress is silent — by the time symptoms appear, significant damage may have already occurred. Monitor every 8–12 weeks and act before the numbers get out of range.
